You Only Have One Alma Mater

Michelle Pare - Class of 2009, Stonehill College - We Love Stonehill, WeLoveStonehill, We Love Stonehill.com, WeLoveStonehill.comA recent statement from a guest speaker in one of my graduate classes says it all: “You only have one Alma mater.” My decision to transfer to the school for my sophomore year was one of the best I have made during my academic career. With its small class sizes and personal community atmosphere Stonehill was a perfect fit for me. It was a combination of my many experiences on campus that made me come to love the school, from riding as a member of the Equestrian Team to taking part in the Haunted Sem for Hall Council, these activities helped make my time at Stonehill memorable. One aspect in particular helped in solidifying my decision on a career to pursue after graduating, that was my role as a Peer Mentor. The desire to work with the college student population spread and influenced my choice in internships, and further education. I have my internship director and Psychology professor, Ellie Stein, along with my supervisors at my internships, including Stonehill’s Career Services, to thank for their support and expertise. I would not have gained the same insight and knowledge of the higher education field without these hands-on experiences. As the guest speaker said, we only have one Alma mater, and I am proud to call Stonehill College mine.
